Thanks to Taru and a question to every team lead

Before reading Please remember:-->It’s my blog and I write it to express my feeling so please don’t take it in any other ways it’s just my feeling and thought so kindly do not co relate it with my organization work ....

Today One team and the project completed 4 years in my company.

On this occasion Present team leader of this team (Tarulata) invited every team member ( who worked in this project for any amount of time) for dinner and I was amazed and happy to know that in this invitation there was name of HR person, Admin person and Network team guys.

It was a pleasant surprise for me to have name of core team member in that list because we never found this kind of invitation from any team previously. We work for every team but on every party they missed to recognize role of core teams in their success. These core teams like, admin, HR; Support plays a silent but very strong role in success of those teams, when they receive appreciation from clients I feel happy because I know I have a small but strong part in this success by being a core member but some time I felt bad also when they enjoy their success but never think in this direction that without support of these team members we couldn’t have done it.

I am not blaming them, it’s their own choice they call us or not but I am writing this because I want to show the thought process that Tarulata shown. When I received this invitation from Tarulata I felt very happy because she recognised our hard work that we do for every team and I had nothing else to say other than thanks....

It was an honour for me to be a part of this party and I really don’t have enough word to say thanks to Tarulata, so just giving her Thanks again.

Thanks Tarulata for appreciating my work.

Other than all above I want to convey a message that in your success there may be some people who worked for you silently and you should recognize their effort also.

I am a network guy and I heard this from my all network friend that no one recognise the hard work that they do.......

As long as I talk about myself I cannot list a number of incidences (because it will be huge) where people came to me complaining that AP received a bad reply from client because we found a 20 minute drop in network but I can make a list(because i can count those incidence on my finger) when people came to me and said AP yesterday network worked good or we got an appreciation from client and I want to say thanks to you..I heard this from few team members some time and those few words always encourage me to do more. (Almost similar is case with my all friends who are in network for some it is even worst)

One may think why one should say thank to me for my job but I feel same question why one should get appreciated from client for their job....... well I can go ahead and can write many pages on this but I don’t want to go away from my original point..

I am expressing my gratitude to Tarulata and I want to show that she is a different lead than many others....

I apologise to everyone else if you dint like my thoughts.

In last but not lease again:-->Please do not think it in boundary of a single organization but please consider this problem as a generic problem before making any thought... if you are a lead of any team than this become more important for you to understand this...

Unfortunately your experience comes due to an unprofessional setup and employee habits. First things first, client will never appreciate you or HR or Admin for a piece of code logic that was written excellently, or a deployment that went and had very few bugs. What you will be appreciated for is the number of issues and the complexity of them you resolve at your end.

From what I see in my new work place, Network Admin is very well managed with all issues going to them in form of JIRA tickets. For every issue there is a ticket, whether that issue came via a phone call or a chat message. Tasks are also resolved at a rapid pace, much faster than my experience at IB. The IT admin team here has about 10 guys and they serve 1000 people in my campus, which is a lower ratio than IB where you have 3 people for 120 people.

Now being a separate department altogether, they obviously have their own parties and celebrations which they confine within their team.

If you talk to the developers like me, I would say give me the managers salary as he does nothing but bullshit whereas its the developers doing the hard work. Every man has his complaints, we just need to learn how to make things better for ourselves. Personally, you are the network lead and should not expect other teams to invite you, like I can't expect NetApps to invite me in their party whereas some of my tips have definitely helped them save many fruitless hours. You should make an effort to closely knit the whole of network team and have your own celebrations.
